Essentials 4 Data Support by "Research Data Netherlands" (RDNL) is an introductory course for those people who (want to) support researchers in storing, managing, archiving and sharing their research data. You can now sign up for this year's May/June round.
MOOC: Delivering Research Data Management Services
In collaboration with the Digital Curation Center (DCC) and University of Edinburgh, Research Data Netherlands (RDNL) developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Delivering Research Data Management Services (DRDMS). The UKB's working group Research Data has created an overview of research data management course materials from universities across the country.
CESSDA provides training on research data management, data curation, etc. in the social sciences. We focus on 'train the trainers' and reaching out directly to the researchers. Especially note the Data Management Expert Guide.
CESSDA stands for Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives and ERIC stands for European Research Infrastructure Consortium. CESSDA provides large-scale, integrated and sustainable data services to the social sciences.
Learn to write your Data Management Plan
RDM Support of Utrecht University developed an online self-study course about research data management. It consists of 6 main modules about data collection, data documentation, data storage, data security, data selection and preservation and data availability for reuse. You can do the course any time, any place. You can do the whole course or just parts of it. The assignment throughout the course is to fill your own data management plan. At the end of each chapter you will be asked to log into DMPonline. With the content in this course, a participant should be able to apply the gained knowledge to their own research project.
The Open Science Training Handbook
Sharing their experience and skills of imparting Open Science principles, the authors produced an open knowledge and educational resource oriented to practical teaching. The focus of the new handbook is not spreading the ideas of Open Science, but showing how to spread these ideas most effectively. Have a look also at the related online courses at fosteropenscience.
Coursera: Data Management
This course will provide learners with an introduction to research data management and sharing. After completing this course, learners will understand the diversity of data and their management needs across the research data lifecycle (...) This course was developed by the Curating Research Assets and Data Using Lifecycle Education (CRADLE) Project in collaboration with EDINA at the University of Edinburgh.
The DCC is a well-established training provider in digital curation and research data management.
The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is an internationally-recognised centre of expertise in digital curation with a focus on building capability and skills for research data management. The DCC provides expert advice and practical help to research organisations wanting to store, manage, protect and share digital research data.
They provide access to a range of resources including our popular How-to Guides, case studies and online services. The training programmes aim to equip researchers and data custodians with the skills they need to manage and share data effectively.
DCC also provides consultancy and support with issues such as policy development and data management planning.
Since mid-2011 they have worked closely with research organisations to provide tailored support for service development, from making the case for research data management through the assessment of needs to the design and implementation of policy, support, infrastructure and services.
Modern life sciences call for advanced data and technological expertise. Researchers and programmers need training to acquire such skills. The DTL-associated professionals jointly identify training needs and develop new courses. This is done in close collaboration with the European endeavour of the ELIXIR Training platform.
The EUDAT Training programme is a training and education service for European research communities, infrastructures and data centres on how EUDAT services support and facilitate research data management. European researchers can also benefit from the training programme by understanding how EUDAT services can play a role in their daily work. The programme is also designed for “new comers” to the research data management field that need and want to build their competences in research data management from scratch.
FOSTER (Facilitate Open Science Training For European Research)
The FOSTER portal is an e-learning platform that brings together the best training resources addressed to those who need to know more about Open Science, or need to develop strategies and skills for implementing Open Science practices in their daily workflows. The FOSTER Plus project (Fostering the practical implementation of Open Science in Horizon 2020 and beyond) is a 2-year, EU-funded project, carried out by 11 partners across 6 countries.
Online Data Management Course

MANTRA is a free online course for those who manage digital data as part of their research project. It has been crafted for the use of post-graduate students, early career researchers, and also information professionals. It is freely available on the web for anyone to explore on their own.
UK Data Service
UK Data Service's training materials have been designed and used as part of daily work for years in supporting ESRC applicants and award holders, and been brought to fruition in a handbook published by SAGE Publications Ltd. in March 2014. The new SAGE handbook, Managing and Sharing Research Data: a guide to good practice, contains chapters that are modularised with explanatory text, exercises, quizzes and answers. They are primarily geared towards social scientists, but are easily adaptable to other disciplines and countries by adding relevant exemplars.
The UK Data Service is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to meet the data needs of researchers, students and teachers from all sectors, including academia, central and local government, charities and foundations, independent research centres, think tanks, and business consultants and the commercial sector. The UK Data Service collection includes major UK government-sponsored surveys, cross-national surveys, longitudinal studies, UK census data, international aggregate, business data, and qualitative data.

Digital Research Methods
