2nd edition Networking Meeting for Data Stewards

Brief report by Ingeborg Verheul

Because of the huge interest in the first edition of the Networking Meeting Data Steward, Meet your Peers! (October 3rd @ SURF), a  second meeting was held on December 1st, to accommodate everyone to participate. See the previous blog for a report of the October Meeting.

Breakout Session on Shades of Open - fab location University Library Utrecht

Again, it was a very successful meeting with almost 70 participants. This time the meeting took place at the University Library Utrecht (location Uithof). For the largest part, the programme of the first meeting was copied. Some elements were introduced to create more networking opportunities and interaction, such as the panel discussion and the Data Stewards Quizzz. Since we expected more participants this time, we also included more breakout sessions.

The programme committee of the 2nde edition was formed by Ton Smeele (Utrecht University, member of the LCRDM Working Group Engagement), Jasper van Dijck (TU Delft, also Member of the LCRDM Working Group Engagement), and again Rob Gommans (Radboud University, LCRDM Working Group Engagement), Tessa Pronk (UU, UKB Working Group Data Management) and Ingeborg Verheul (LCRDM). Tessa Pronk again chaired the meeting.

  • Virtual Network – use it!

One of the outcomes of the last meeting was  that there is a need for structural exchange of information between data stewards. Therefore a list was created on the online platform/wiki of the LCRDM where the data stewards can leave their contact details and an indication of their interest. The list will help to find the peers and get in touch with each other if necessary. Please feel free to add your name and make use of it.

In the programme below you will find the link to the presentations.

  • Follow up

All participants of the Meeting on December 1st have received a link to a Surf Academy evaluation form. Please give us your feedback. In the 1st half of 2018 we will be organising a large meet-up. Date, news on the programme and the location will follow soon on the platform of the LCRDM.

In the meantime: good luck with the last two weeks before the Christmas Holidays and make a note in your diary for Thursday, 8 February 2018: a large RDM conference will be held on this day in a special place  in Utrecht to celebrate the achievements of the first 3 years of LCRDM, and to discuss future cooperation of RDM. All data stewards are most welcome to join!
